Aldi's BBQ Ready Beef Burgers took the top spot in four categories: Best Value, Top Quality, Top Recommended, and Great Quality. At just $7.49 for a 500g four-pack, these burgers offer serious value, according to the survey of thousands of shoppers nationwide.
This win is a significant achievement for Aldi, as it demonstrates that the brand can deliver on both quality and affordability. Simon Padovani-Ginies, Group Director at Aldi Australia, stated, 'This win shows Australians don't need to choose between great quality meat and low prices because, with an Aldi price, they can have both.'
However, it's not all smooth sailing for Aldi. In a separate blind taste test conducted by Choice, a consumer watchdog, rival supermarket brands Coles and Woolworths emerged as strong contenders. Coles Finest Coarse Ground Angus Burgers were crowned the overall winner with a score of 77%, while Woolworths Chuck & Brisket Quarter Pound Beef Burgers came in second place with a 70% rating.
The rise of the beef patty as a supermarket staple is a response to the mounting pressure on household budgets. Retail beef prices have jumped 12% over the past four years due to export demand and supply chain issues. As a result, Aussies are opting for quick, convenient supermarket meal solutions, sending sales of premade beef patties soaring.
